Might EU structural funds do Hungary more harm than good?

Széchenyi College of Corvinus University organised a one-day conference on EU development policy, entitled EU Resources - Hungarian Stories. One of the talks was delivered by our colleague, Balázs Váradi.

The talk our senior researcher (who also teaches at Széchenyi College) gave bore the title Are our Treasures Cursed? In it he argued, based both on theory and empirical studies, that in a country whose institutions are of the quality Hungary's are, social welfare may not be boosted, indeed it may suffer thanks to the EU transfers received.
